Antique Denim Blue Ticking Stripe 19 x 19 Decorative Pillow with Down Feather Insert
Couldn't load pickup availability
Ticking Stripe is woven from cotton or a linen/cotton blend to be exceptionally strong, durable and feather-proof. Originating hundreds of years ago in Nimes, France, it was ideal for bedding, mattress and pillow covers. Sister Parish is credited with making ticking more decorative, using it for slipcovers in the 60’s to create her eponymous American traditional style.
Ticking was usually made up in blue or red stripes, with natural or organic dyes; the fading and dye transfer on some vintage pieces like this one (see photos) is evidence of the age. The denim blue-gray stripe is backed with 100% grey linen, connected with a petite satiny grey twisted rope. Our collection is sourced from collectors searching the brocante (flea markets) in France. Ticking pillows look great with other ticking stripes, toiles, and florals.
