Pierre Deux Provencal Style 20 x 20 Square Decorative Pillow with Down Feather Insert
This very rare vintage textile from the famed firm of Pierre Deux (sadly no longer in business) is a very distinctive design that is striking and totally charming, way beyond the boundaries of traditional Provencal style. In 1967, two gentlemen named Pierre opened a shop in Greenwich Village that expressed their passion for French joie de vivre and the French country way of life for American homes; a centuries-old style that adds warmth to any setting with distinctively French Provencal textiles suited to the happy sun-drenched colors of Provence in southeastern France, perched above the Mediterranean Sea. Mixed richly colored patterns abound - plaids, stripes, toile and Indiennes, the characteristic petite bock print floral that actually originated in India in the early 17th century. Our unique print, rescued from a decorator’s cache of never-used fabric samples, starts with a traditional French country theme of the rooster - but places him proudly in an elaborate green archway surrounded by the brilliant coloration of Provence in flowers and lanterns, festooned with peonies, poppies and herbs in brilliant pinks, yellows, and blues of typical Provencal fabrics. Upcycled with a coordinating traditional stripe grounds the design in grass green, while a petite pink rope frames the scene. Absolutely one-of-a-kind and fabulous. A conversation starter!
